Spring Classic Springs Midwest Short Track Season Into Action Sunday

Rockford, IL- The 34th annual Spring Classic will take center stage this Sunday afternoon at Rockford Speedway with a 1pm start time, officially marking the start of short track racing in the upper Midwest. Engines have been roaring all week in preparation for this marquee event which will feature the top drivers from weekly short tracks in Wisconsin and Illinois as the Big 8 Late Model Series presented by Gandrud Chevrolet as well as the Mid-American Stock Car Series begin their seasons at the high banked quarter mile paved oval.

An open practice session is slated to take place Saturday April 16 from noon until 4pm for both divisions, with pit gates opening at 10am for weekend long hauler parking. Saturday practice times may be adjusted to allow for ample on-track time for teams competing. Sunday morning April 17 will see pit gates open at 7am with rotating practice beginning at 9:30am, spectator gates will open at 11am and Quarter Master Qualifying goes green at 11:15am.

Track and Series Champions will have their hands full during the 108 lap Big 8 Series feature event as well as the 50 lap Mid-American Stock Car main event on Sunday. Last year, Casey Johnson was victorious in Big 8 action, using that momentum to record his first Jefferson Speedway Championship. Meanwhile Mark Pluer slugged it out in Mid-American action, muscling his machine into victory lane, minus the front nose. Both drivers will be back to defend their Spring Classic titles on Sunday, local forecasts call for sunny skies with high temperatures near sixty degrees.
