Rockford, IL- As stated in the Official Entry Form for the April 13th Big 8 Series Spring Classic 100, the only tires allowed in competition will be the Goodyear 2462 and 2663 eight inch tires produced in the United States. The new production 2862 and 2863 will not be allowed in competition until a yet to be determined date. The 2862 and 2863 are a new run out of one of the Goodyear production facilities in Canada.
“While it is our understanding that the new Canadian tires are constructed from the same rubber compound, we want to give our competitors a chance to use the cured 2462 and 2663 which we have raced on in the previous two seasons,” stated Big 8 Series presented by Gandrud Chevrolet, Competition Director Greg Folk. “In doing so we will be able witness any differences, if any, between the two tires outside of competition and adjust for those differences at our future events.” The shipments of new tires are not expected to arrive at vendor locations until just days before the season opening event, most local tracks including Rockford have an ample supply of the Akron, OH produced tires.
An open practice session is slated for Saturday April 12 at Rockford Speedway for both the Big 8 Series and Mid-American Stock Car Series, pit gates will open at 10am with testing sessions taking place from 12-4pm. Then on Sunday April 13th it is the 31st annual Spring Classic presented by Yellowbook will begin at 1pm featuring 100 laps of Big 8 action and 50 grueling laps for the Mid-American Stock Cars.
